Helping children in need since 2000, Operation Santa SC works with Title 1 elementary schools in Greenville County to provide basic necessities to children who otherwise would not experience the joy of gifts during the holiday season. These children need specific items like clothes, socks, underwear, pajamas, winter coats, and shoes that fit. They will also receive a toy they have requested and one educational item. Over 350 individuals and businesses are participating in Operation Santa SC this year with 870 children needing gifts this season.
For the seventh year, Hilton Displays has committed to participate in Operation Santa SC, after becoming aware of the need in their local community. Thirty-one employees took on the role of Santa for seven children in total, three girls and four boys ranging from K-5 to 5th grade. After all the gifts were purchased and received in the Hilton Displays office, several elves wrapped the gifts and were ready to be delivered to the central “receiving” center at Century BMW in Greenville, SC. In a few days, a local moving company, which has donated its time and resources, will deliver the presents to the fifteen participating elementary schools. Guidance counselors and social workers from each school will coordinate with the student’s parents and/or guardians to pick up the gifts and have them available to give to the children over the holidays.
Employees at Hilton Displays are proud to be part of a company that "gives back" to its local community. Vanoy, an employee, stated: “It's wonderful Hilton Displays participates in Operation Santa SC, I think other companies should also support such a good cause like this.” When asked why he participates, Vanoy explained: “As a child, I grew up in a single-family home, we didn’t have much, my mom worked but couldn’t afford to purchase gifts for me and my siblings. It brings me a lot of joy to contribute to Operation Santa SC because I know the feeling of receiving a gift when I didn’t think I would be getting one. It thrills me to know I will be making someone else very happy.”
Operation Santa SC was established in 2012 as a nonprofit 501(c)3 by John Sheppard, former principal of Hughes Middle School, after seeing the need in his school in 2000. At that time, he and his wife, Kathy, ‘adopted’ three of the school’s students by providing essential items for their Christmas. Since then, Operation Santa SC has grown significantly in Greenville County, bringing joy to many young children and their families.
Hilton Displays is proud to participate in Operation Santa SC each year because it supports one of the main values; compassion. Compassion means to Hilton Displays employees that we give generously in time and money to those less fortunate in our community. Mandy, an employee, said, “One of my favorite attributes of Hilton Displays is the importance of family values, participating in Operation Santa SC further encompasses that commitment.” When asked why she participates in Operation Santa SC, Mandy shared, “As a single mom, I have always appreciated the support I’ve received from so many people, and by participating in Operation Santa SC, I feel I’m helping pass that support along by helping give kids a Christmas who might not otherwise have one. Everyone deserves to know the joy of Christmas. The best part about Christmas is passing the joy, happiness, and love on to others. Bringing a smile to a child’s face is the best present anyone can give and I’m so proud to be a part of a company that shares that same mentality.”
We at Hilton Displays wish you and yours a Happy Holiday Season and a Prosperous New Year!
